FIA Flame Conference 2012

The Power Plate team were out in force, at last week’s FIA Flame conference, where they showcased the latest products in the Power Plate portfolio to over 800 delegates from the health and fitness sector.

The two-day event starts with a golf and spa day, which gives operators and suppliers the chance to catch up with old friends and industry contacts, and meet and make new contacts. The following day, the conference itself took place at the Magna Centre in Sheffield.

The seminars on offer were laden with tips on how companies can do more for their clients, whether it be integrating social media into their communications strategy, or keeping abreast of emerging trends.

For us, the social media seminars were spot on and opened our eyes further to how this relatively new form of communication can be used in a business environment. However, the best seminar had to be the one presented by SAS hero Chris Ryan, who gave an incredibly emotional speech about ‘the one that got away’.

In the evening we all attended the Ball of Fire, an awards ceremony that recognises outstanding companies within the fitness industry. This was a very glamorous event, with everyone making a huge effort in the fashion stakes.

As well as enjoying a delicious three course meal, we learned about the FIA’s chosen charity, the Matt Hampson Foundation, which was set up by England rugby star Matt Hampson in 2005, after he was paralysed from the neck down following an accident during his training with the England under 21s squad.

Awards on the evening included Club of the Year, Educational Club of the Year, Spark of Innovation, Operator of the Year and the Future of Flame, and then it was time to take to the dance floor and enjoy the live band and DJ.

Both the Flame Conference and Ball of Fire were a great success, so thank you very much to the team at the FIA for organising such a fantastic, informative and fun-filled industry event, for the fourth year running. All we ask is that next year’s venue comes with air-conditioning (or the weather co-operates and isn’t quite so muggy!)

Get set for the FIA Flame Conference 2012

Here at Power Plate HQ, we are busy gearing up for the fourth annual FIA Flame Conference, which is now just a few weeks away.

As FIA sponsors, Power Plate will be out in force at the Magna Centre in Sheffield, to showcase our new touch screen technology and our great pro6 model, as well as our new leasing options which make owning genuine Power Plate machines easier and more cost-effective than ever before.

The Flame Conference really is one of the biggest industry events of the year, and as this year’s theme is ‘In Search of Excellence’, the organisers have lined up a great array of inspiring presentations from industry experts in branding, social media and business success.

But it won’t be all work and no play. There’s also the opportunity to relax and network with colleagues, thanks to the annual FIA Golf Day and pre-conference reception at Tankersley Park Golf Club and Tankersley Manor, also in Sheffield, the day before the conference.

The conference will be opened by keynote speaker, SAS hero Chris Ryan, who will be sharing his remarkable story, before the other headline speakers, including Brian Gibbons, Frank Furness and Henry Mason, also share their wisdom and knowledge on everything from the latest research, technological developments and trends within the industry.

To wrap up the event, the post-conference Ball of Fire promises to be a night to remember, recognising and celebrating some of the biggest names in the health and fitness industry, with the announcement of this year’s winners of the prestigious FIA and Matrix Flame Awards.

If you will be attending the Flame Conference this year, please do pop by and say hello to the Power Plate team. And if you can’t be there, then stay tuned as we’ll bring you more updates and highlights right here.

Power Plate teams up with nutrition expert Amanda Hamilton to get you in shape for 2012

To get your 2012 off to a great start, celebrity nutritionist Amanda Hamilton has joined forces with Power Plate to offer a bespoke training and nutrition package that will re-shape your body for the new year.

Amanda’s “real results” approach to weight loss and nutrition offers a healthy way to lose inches, all tailored towards today’s busy lifestyles. Her new website allows members to receive tailor made daily menus, shopping lists, how-to videos and tips to help get their bodies from A to B.

The programme starts with a weeklong full body “cleanse” to set the body on the right track, and then moves into the “re-shape” phase, aimed at helping members to achieve steady and sustainable weight loss. The final stage of the journey is “healthy me” where you are given the tools and tricks to maintain your target weight, incorporating what you have learned into your daily lifestyle.

Working with the leaders in Acceleration Training™, Power Plate, Amanda has now devised the “Re-Shape” exercise concept, which offers guidance on how to use the Power Plate machine to help give maximum results during the weight loss journey. The workouts are all designed to complement Amanda’s nutritional expertise.

Acceleration Training on a Power Plate machine has long been the secret tool for A List celebrities, and research shows that regular use, as part of a wider training regime (and of course in conjunction with a healthy diet!) can help you shape up faster.

Amanda Hamilton will be making a personal appearance on Saturday 21st January, at the John Lewis Oxford Street store in London, and on Saturday 28th January at John Lewis Bluewater. Come along for your personal consultation with Amanda, and learn more about your body type and how Acceleration Training can help you achieve your goals faster. Each visitor will receive a free five day pass to Amanda’s online weight loss programme.

We’ve also got a great competition coming up in association with these events, so stay tuned for more news about that next week!

Destination Sport: Harrods Fifth Floor Launch

Last night heralded the official launch of the newly refurbished Sports department on the Fifth Floor of the world-famous Harrods department store. And what a night it was…..

The store hosted on a magnificent, fun packed event with the help of its many retail partners. There were prizes galore on offer, a guest DJ set the scene mixing retro tunes with modern music, whilst guests enjoyed healthy canapés courtesy of SoulmateFood, all washed down with mini bottles of Harrods champers. Celebrity guests in attendance included singer Peter Andre and football legend Sol Campbell, as well as a host of special VIPs.

Entertainment on the night included demonstrations from Capoeira dancers, Zumba instructors and yoga bunnies, who struck the right balance of fitness trends.

At the new Power Plate retail space there was a touch of Christmas sparkle thanks to a captivating performance from English National Ballet senior principal dancers Dmitri Gruzdyev and Erina Takahashi. Their show stopping display of strength, elegance and flexibility left their audience in awe of their grace and power…. making them the perfect ambassadors for Power Plate.

And the performances did not stop there, our very own energetic studio team of trainers were also out in force, presenting elements from the new Power Plate Combination class concept, effortlessly holding the most challenging of yoga poses on the vibration platform.

All in all, it was a show stopping evening and we cannot wait to see what the department has in store in the run up to London 2012!

England Squad use Power Plate as they get ready for the Four Nations Rugby League Cup

For Rugby League fans the next few weeks will bring excitement and perhaps even a few tears, as we prepare for the start of the Four Nations competition between England, Wales, New Zealand and Australia. The first England match, which is on Saturday 29th October against Wales, looks set to be a survival of the fittest, as it pits two top teams against each other.

Now, we may be slightly biased but we can’t but think that the England team may have a slight competitive edge, as for the past few months they have been training with Mark Bitcon, England Rugby League’s Strength and Conditioning coach, at Loughborough University. They’ve had a secret weapon on hand to accelerate their training – the Power Plate pro5AIRdaptive™ machine.

The vibrating plate has been put to good use for pre and post match training programmes, as evidence suggests that Power Plate machines can help to increase flexibility and strength, and aiding faster recovery and rehabilitation of injuries after a game.

Due to the gruelling nature of rugby league, it is crucial for the players to be in peak condition. Power and endurance are fundamental to ensure they remain in top shape, especially in an international competition such as the Four Nations, where all the players really are at the top of their game.

So please join us in wishing the England squad the very best of luck for their upcoming games. Here’s hoping that their Power Plate training helps them win the title they very much deserve.
